Bond Studio NY Aftercare Guide

‍ ‍ ColdFusion (ICE) & Keratin Bond (K-Tip) Extensions

Both ICE Cold Fusion and K-Tip Keratin Bond extensions use a bonded attachment method, so day-to-day care is the same for both. Maintenance is recommended every 3 months. Please follow the guidelines below regardless of which bond type you have.

1. Washing & Drying

  • Wait 48 hours before your first wash to allow bonds to fully set.

  • Always gently detangle before washing using a loop brush or extension-safe brush.

  • Use sulfate-free, paraben-free shampoo and a lightweight conditioner. Avoid heavy oils, proteins, or alcohol-based products near the bonds.

  • Apply conditioner only from mid-lengths to ends — never directly on the bonds.

  • Wash in a downward motion; do not scrub or rub the root area.

  • Pat hair dry with a towel — do not twist or rub.

  • After washing, rough-dry hair to at least 90% before using a brush or comb, to avoid damage to your natural hair.

  • Blow dry bonds on a medium setting. Do not leave bonds wet for extended periods.

2. Brushing

  • Do not brush or comb hair while soaking wet. Rough-dry hair to at least 90% before using a brush or comb.

  • Use a loop brush or soft-bristle extension brush only.

  • Brush daily, starting at the ends and working upward while supporting the roots with your hand.

  • Be gentle near the bonds — avoid harsh tugging or unnecessary tension.

3. Sleeping

  • Never sleep with wet hair — always fully dry bonds before bed.

  • Secure hair in a low braid or loose ponytail overnight to prevent tangling.

  • A silk pillowcase is recommended to reduce friction and maintain shine.

4. Styling

  • Always use a heat protectant spray before applying any heat tools.

  • Avoid oil-based styling products at the roots or near the bonds.

  • Keep heat tools away from the roots and bonds at all times, regardless of bond type — direct heat at the roots can damage or loosen both ICE and K-Tip bonds.

5. Activities & Lifestyle

  • Before swimming, apply a leave-in conditioner and braid your hair to minimize tangling. Rinse with fresh water immediately afterward.

  • Avoid frequent or prolonged exposure to chlorine and saltwater.

  • Tie hair back during workouts to avoid sweat buildup at the bonds, and wash promptly afterward.

6. Maintenance

  • Maintenance is recommended every 3 months. Going beyond 3 months increases the risk of issues with both your natural hair and the extensions themselves.

  • Do not attempt to remove bonds at home — removal must always be performed by a professional to protect your natural hair.

  • If you plan to reuse your extensions, save any shed pieces and bring them to your next appointment.

7. Normal Bond Loss

  • It's normal to lose approximately 5–10 bonds per month due to natural daily shedding. This is expected and does not indicate a problem with your installation.

Installation and adhesive issues are typically identifiable within the first 72 hours following your appointment, and any concerns should be reported within this window per your Service Agreement. Bond-related concerns that arise after this period are generally considered a maintenance matter — a normal result of natural hair growth and everyday wear — rather than an installation defect.

8. What to Avoid

  • Drugstore 2-in-1 shampoos, heavy oils, or thick masks on or near the bonds

  • Picking, twisting, or pulling at the bonds

  • Excessive teasing or backcombing near the root area
